COLFAX, NC – HORSEPOWER, a therapeutic riding center in Colfax, will host its Third Annual Student Ride-A-Thon on Saturday, June 10, 2006 from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  All proceeds from the Ride-A-Thon will provide reduced fees and scholarships for the 75-100 children and adults with disabilities who participate in HORSEPOWER’s program each week.

The riders themselves will ride the trails and courses at the HORSEPOWER facility, and participate in games and crafts.  Prior to the event, the students and families collect pledges from their family and friends.  In addition, we seek corporate sponsors and gifts from individuals in the community.  “Last year’s event raised $7,000 for student scholarships, and our goal this year is $16,000,” said Jan Clifford, Executive Director.  “Having funds for student scholarships is critical to our ability to make our programs and services available to all those with special needs in our community.  Currently 92% of our students request scholarship assistance to participate in our program.”

If you would like more information about how you can volunteer, assist with collecting pledges or corporate sponsorships, or join us for lunch, please contact Jan Clifford at (336) 931-1424 or jan@horsepower.org.
